De-Mining Systems UK Ltd was formed back in 1998 with the aim of developing, manufacturing, operating and marketing machinery and systems enabling a safer, more rapid and economically sustainable method of removing landmines. This system is partly based around an innovative mechanical concept previously designed and developed by the company founder Roy Dixon for land reclamation machinery. The system Roy developed and produced proved very successful.

Although the main aim of De-mining Systems UK Ltd was to help humanity, it was soon realised that large scale funding would be required but that there was also a rapidly expanding market for this new technology with ever increasing commercial viability. Many new landmine removal organisations and companies are being formed both governmental and commercial. The ever-increasing global awareness including such developments as the Ottawa convention and the rapid escalation in effort to address the landmine problem made us realise that this may be of interest to potential investors.

Globally, more money than ever before is being made available to the de-mining effort thus creating a very lucrative market for an effective de-mining machine/system. It is this business potential that we are exploiting in order to get this whole project off the ground both for the good of the initial investors but also for the good of humanity.

The mechanical system that we are developing is of great interest to de-mining organisations and development agencies not only because of the efficiency in removing landmines but also because of the system's ability to simultaneously plant a crop, thus providing a greater element of agricultural sustainability and financial viability. It is through this ability to plant crops while simultaneously removing the landmines that we coined the phrase "Minefields to Cornfields"

De-Mining Systems UK Ltd is committed to grasping today's technology and putting it to good use, so that the world can be a safer place both for ourselves and for future generations.

Commercial markets for the product
With many recent governmental policy changes, world developments and funding availability, there is an increasingly growing market for this Modular De-Mining system, for example; the many government and non government organisations, the many new commercial and voluntary organisations, the United Nations, NATO, World Health Organisation, the Red Crescent, the Red Cross and so on.

In addition to the groups listed above, other organisations such as UNHCR could have an interest in the product, in fact virtually any organisation, government or company that is called upon to make areas contaminated with landmines, safe to use for everyday living.

The list of groups currently working or employing the services of others to clear mines is too extensive to list within this document. But all of these groups would benefit from a lower cost, safer means of de-mining. Location
De-Mining Systems UK Ltd are currently located in the heart of rural Northumberland, which is an intensely agricultural area, also home to the Otterburn military ranges used by the British Army and NATO forces.

It is also close to the industrial centres of Tyneside and Teesside and is blessed with hard working and very determined people who have shown many times in the past, their ability to deliver quality results. The positive personal attitudes found in these Northern areas, are the very attitudes that breed success.

Strengths
We strongly believe that our concept inspires all who get involved, encouraging individuals and companies to provide whatever help they can, be it a service, or initial funding. The people involved in the project are very determined and will carry the project forward. We believe that the unique versatility of the machine and the immediate appeal to the rapidly expanding contractors market, positions it well in terms of sales.

Weaknesses
We have problems, just like everybody else. All of the work so far had been done on a voluntary/charitable basis. This limited the resources available to promote the commercial business and to gain valuable support from large organisations. Obtaining sufficient funds to turn the 'dreams' into reality is hard work. Some large corporations are only prepared to make donations or investments when they can see other money in the bank to act as a gearing mechanism. It's a 'chicken and egg' situation although this problem should be solved soon. The adversity this problem caused has made those involved even more determined than ever, building a strong base of committed people.

Summary
We are not only prepared to stand by our de-mining machine, with our Minefields to Cornfields concept we are also prepared to work behind it, returning the land back to it's original purpose, that of supporting humanity. Meet the Management team

Roy Dixon - Managing Director
Roy has 20 years experience as director of various companies and project management mainly involved with ground works, soil management and land reclamation. Roy has undertaken and directed numerous large scale projects in many countries.

He has been involved with and studied landmine issues in the UK, USA and worked with de-mining organisations in Cambodia. He has undertaken humanitarian projects in Asia and is acquainted with and consults on the unique requirements of de-mining. Roy has already built and proved the concept of many of the innovations in the de-mining machine. He has a track record of successful innovation in high quality soil processing machinery.

 

Neil Roberts - Business Management
25 years of multi-million pound project management (PRINCE, IAF, SSADM, RAD, IEEE) and implementation experience in pharmaceuticals, IT, telephony and agriculture. Neil brings GPS navigation design and use of computer and satellite communication technology to the project, for positioning, engine and equipment management system processing, including specific mine detection systems and ground penetrating radar.

 

Mark Nailis - Design & Engineering
C.Eng, M.I.E.I., MSc, B.Eng, Consultant Design Engineer. Mark worked as a University based researcher for small and medium sized enterprises. He was responsible for project management of government supported programmes for North East business, facilitator for the Royal Academy of Engineering (P3I programme), controlled development and preparation of funding projects covering all aspects of business and commerce, ran liaison between the University the DTI, TCD, Business Links, Government office for the North East and the Regional Development Agency and conducted marketing analysis of the regional economy.

 

Catherine Dixon - Personnel Director
Catherine has many years experience in management and training and has had many positions in heading up departments. She has a particular skill with people-management and has also spent much time travelling and working abroad including humanitarian projects which is where her main interests lie.

Roland "Roly" W M Beevor - IT & Quality
Cambridge graduate in Economics and Social Sciences. Worked as a consultant in Quality and Health and Safety Management Systems before leading a buy out of Christison Scientific Equipment in 1995 where he is now Managing Director. Roly's initial involvement with De-Mining Systems was to help updating the website, but he was unable to resist the teams' enthusiasm. He brings experience of business support, innovation and industrial development grant applications, company strategy, marketing and general management systems, documentation and information technology.

Malcolm Snaith - Finance
Qualified as a chartered accountant in 1976. Spent a few years in the accountancy profession in Newcastle and a short time with a commercial organisation on Teesside. Joined Mill Garages in 1983 as Group Accountant and then in 1987 became Finance Director and Shareholder following a management buyout. The company was sold with a turnover in excess of £50 million.

He now runs his own accountancy practice specialising in business strategy. Malcolm says "It was at a financing seminar that I learnt about the De-mining Systems project and Roy's idea's about sustainable humanitarian work "minefields to cornfields". As I was considering where my future lay, being asked by Roy to be a part of the operation was an ideal chance to use my breadth of financial knowledge and experience, with like minded people, in a company which has the facilities to provide worldwide humanitarian help.
